Employers- Juneteenth

Juneteenth is NOT a new holiday!

However, it took until 2021 for it to be recognized as a national holiday in America.

What is it exactly?

On June 19th, 1865 word of the emancipation of enslaved people in the US was received in Texas where many slaves were freed! The first time this holiday was celebrated was in 1866 (156 years ago).

Considering the recent and ongoing events centered around racism, it's time the nation wakes up to the fact that we have a long way to go until equity is achieved. At the very least, honoring this holiday may be a good way for you to start honoring this goal of equality and anti-racism in the workplace. If you want to do more, keep scrolling!

What are other companies doing?

Many companies are choosing to observe this as a paid holiday. Since this year it falls on a Sunday, it will be observed on Monday, June 20th. The National reserve, banks, and many other businesses will be closed.
