JobSeekers- Lessons from Poor Leadership

Recently I was in a meeting with a few executives and we were talking about leadership and what that means to us.  We started to share stories about the great leadership we had in our lives but more than that, we told the war stories of the terrible leaders we "survived".

It is in poor leadership that...

  • Good leadership has the opportunity to shine!  Those in the crowd among the many are given an opportunity to stand up and fill the gap for their comrades.

  • We must ask ourselves what we will allow in our lives and what we will reject. We find what we tolerate under poor leadership and what we feel led to stand against. We get to know ourselves better and our convictions.

  • We learn new skills.  When given the circumstances, we push ourselves outside of our comfort zone and try something different, learn something new, and experiment, because after all... how much worse can it get?

  • We learn how to have empathy.  To be the witness to abuses and dirty deeds done and feel led to pick up those victims and love them well.  Love them more than you would otherwise because you are showing love for more than just yourself.

  • We see our reflections and become aware of the similarities.  We draw closer to who we want to be and away from the bad habits we have formed in toxic environments.

  • We learn more, shine brighter, love harder and grow beyond our expectations!  So the next time you start to complain about your "bad boss," think to yourself, how can I take this situation to grow and bless others.
