Tips to Lower Anxiety in the Workplace
Prioritize Culture
Positive culture and strong leadership doesn’t happen with an annual meetings alone. It happens when there is clear compassionate communication, relationship building, and trainings on a consistent basis. I recommend offering daily or weekly trainings to refresh and introduce leadership skills. You can even offer mindfulness, yoga, or fitness classes (even virtually for those working at home).
Look Out For Increase In Unhealthy Habits
Unfortunately, overdoses are on the rise 40% in FL since the pandemic began. Though we can’t always assume drugs are involved there are some changes we can look out for when it comes to usage and mental health struggles. For example, erratic behaviors, changes in attendance, tardiness, changes in hygiene, distancing from professional relationships, etc. Main point, be aware, ask how they are doing, and be be clear on expectations in your company.
Keep Your Employee Handbook Up To Date
To further that last point above, having an updated and clear employee handbook reduces the amount of speculation and worry when special situations arise. Handbooks can answer specific questions so there is less confusion. Direct policies set a clear standard across the company and can be referred to often. Humans feel secure with boundaries! Remember, we must follow handbook for everyone equally to eliminate favoritism.
Remember, a strong and accurate employee handbook takes the burden off of management to explain policy and procedure on a per occurrence basis, keeping your team more productive and focused on the task at hand.
